The Man Behind the Braid

Jerry Brown wasn't just a fisherman — he was a polymer chemist who actually understood what fishing line was made of, and knew it could be better. In 1998, he turned that knowledge into Jerry Brown Industries, pioneering hollow core and standard braid made from genuine Spectra (UHMWPE) fiber at a time when most anglers hadn't heard the term. What started as one man's obsession became the gold standard for serious offshore anglers.

Chemist by Profession

Every spool starts with the same commitment Jerry made on day one: no cheap wax coatings, no corners cut, no compromises on fiber quality. Jerry even designed the DaHo Reverse Latch Splicing Needle himself — because if you're going to make the best hollow core braid, you'd better make the best tool to splice it with. This is what 25+ years of doing one thing really, really well looks like.

Fisherman at Heart

Jerry wasn't building line for someone else's adventure — he was building it for his own. A lifelong long-range angler, he tested everything in the conditions that matter: offshore, under pressure, against fish that don't forgive weak gear. That's the loop that made JB Line One what it is. The chemist and the fisherman were the same guy.

"A day on the water doesn't count as one of your allotted days on earth."

Jerry lived by that line, and anyone who ever fished with him knew he meant it. He believed fishing wasn't lost time — it was the whole point. Jerry Brown, 1929–2023. Well done, Jerry. We'll take it from here.

The Legacy, Continued

Marilyn joined her dad part-time in 2019, and by 2021 she'd stepped away from a career in accounting to run JB Line One full time. She grew up watching her dad build something worth building — and now she's the one making sure every spool that ships is still made the way Jerry intended. Same fiber. Same standards. Same stubbornness about quality.
